The Urban Engine Playbook
Whether you’re pushing down a tough hallway, making a hit on a car fire, or operating at a natural gas leak, the role of an effective engine company can be a game changer. From apparatus positioning to estimating and making a stretch, this class gives you street smart solutions to overcome many challenges faced. Working aggressively and thinking outside the box may be the difference between making or breaking the outcome of an incident. The Urban Engine Playbook provides experience-based tactics that foster coordinated, positive outcomes on the fire ground. Take some of this knowledge and have your engine company set the pace at its next working fire.

Not Your Grandfather’s Fire Service
“Not your Grandfathers Fire Service” Today’s fire service is an ever-changing profession. Recently, many studies have been done on firefighting tactics that are producing hard to swallow changes and catchy phrases like “hitting it hard from the yard.” and “beware of the flow path”. One must ask themselves “are we reinventing the wheel or do we really need to better understand our trade.” This program will discuss today’s fireground and how we need to understand our enemy in order to achieve success. Modern building hazards and fire dynamics will be discussed as well as tactical considerations such as search, VEIS, and ventilation. The importance of proper wearing of PPE and a discussion on the increase of maydays in the fire service will close out our presentation. An emphasis on “The 10 Minute Drill” will be promoted to better train today’s firefighter with a simplistic yet effective approach. This is a must attend program that will be valuable to all ranks from probie to chief of department.

Are You Ready? Beyond The Smoke
Awoken from a deep sleep and in an instant, first responders can be thrust into a “low frequency, high risk” emergency; and may need to make split-second life or death decisions. These situations can be incredibly stressful both physically and mentally. This seminar will review several serious incidents that the instructor was personally involved in, and exposes the possible after-affects – both physical and mental stresses—that resulted and can result in others. The program will also discuss how first responders can improve their ability to be better prepared to handle “low frequency, high risk” incidents. Discussions include the importance of emotions of the responders, being physically fit and prepared, post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other mental health considerations, and the importance of training for real world emergencies.
  • Instructor Chief John Sahatjian - is the Chief of South Wall Fire-Rescue in Wall Township, NJ. John is a certified National Level 2 Instructor and is a Lead instructor for All Hands Fire Training.
