Since 2006, the Petzl EXO Personal Escape System has been in use by firefighter across the United States. It has become an essential safety component in a firefighters personal protective equipment.
The Petzl EXO allows firefighters to escape danger from upper floors of buildings within seconds! The EXO descender is presently used by all firefighter with the FDNY.

How it works? The Petzl EXO Firefighter Escape System attaches to the users Class II Harness, and rests on the users right hip. It is pre-rigged and is always attached to the harness. In the event that a member becomes trapped on an upper floor, the firefighter immediately deploys the Petzl EXO system, secures the Anchor Hook to a substantial anchor point, proceeds to the window, and exits. Once out and once they have transitioned their weight to the Petzl EXO system and Harness, they trigger the EXO device and descend to safety. The Petzl EXO is UL Certified to NFPA 1983 Standards and comes complete with the EXO Auto-Locking lever controlled descender, 50’ of 7.5mm Technora rope rated at 900-degrees and 5,000 lbs tensile strength, a sewn-in Anchor Hook with Hitching Slot and Auto-Locking 3-stage aluminum carabiner (to attach to the user). A Carry Bag is sold seperately.
This system has been test and is rated at 13.5 kN (3034.92348 lbf.). This system weighs 3.5 lbs. and is very compact.
Training
IMPORTANT: Petzl requires the users first attend an authorized "End User" course prior to receiving the Petzl EXO Escape System. An EXO dealer is not permitted to sell an EXO Escape System to a customer without the customer first attending an EXO End User Class or by providing a copy of a class certificate.
