Southcombe Gloves, which has been making gloves since 1847 and who has over 80% of the Police, Military, and Fire Industry Market Share in the UK, is the only manufacturer to offer this patented PYROHIDE® leather.
PYROHIDE® is a world class top-grade grain cowhide leather developed specifically for fire-fighters and used by 48 of the 61 brigades in the UK. It offers resistance to fire, heat, water, salt water, liquid chemicals (sulphuric acid, hydrochloric acid, caustic soda, ethanol etc) and Man Made Mineral Fibres (MMMFs). It is highly tactile in wet and dry conditions and dries soft following normal use. Manufactured in the UK by Southcombe Brothers using a proprietary formula, it is exclusive to the Firemaster range of gloves. PYROHIDE® is the first line of defense for fire-fighters.
Pathogen resistant CROSSTECH® glove membrane by Gore™ offering liquid penetration resistance against blood and body fluids, as well as superior performance unmatched by any other waterproof and breathable barrier fabric currently on the market. CROSSTECH® glove inserts are highly abrasion-resistant and thermally stable. They perform five times better than competitive polyurethane-based products for waterproofness and abrasion resistance.
Kovenex® offers an inherently flame-resistant blend of non-chemically treated performance fibers that provide outstanding heat-blocking qualities. Kovenex performance fabrics are flexible, durable and offer cut and sharps protection in addition to protection from heat and flame. No other thermal barrier on the market provides as much heat protection while maintaining a high level of dexterity.

Flame retardant silicone coated KEVLAR® for increased abrasion resistance, contact heat resistance and improved grip in wet conditions.

I was a little apprehensive about ordering the Firemaster Ultra glove because I could not find any reviews about them on-line or in any firefighting forums. However, after using them over the course of a few weeks, I'm extreamly happy that I bought them. I have used many different styles of gloves over the years and in my opinon these are one of the best pair of gloves I have ever used. They are light weight and not as bulky when compared to the American FireWear gaunlet gloves I was using prior to these. The Firemaster gloves feel more like a gentleman's glove then a firefighters glove. The reinforced grip around the palm helps a lot when using hand tools. The gloves broke in very quickly and they have amazing dexterity. The only problem you might encounter is they run a little small. I usualy wear xl glove size but with Firemaster Ultra I needed an xxl size.
