P.R.E.S.S. Description
The RIT Rescue & Escape
Systems Pre-Rigged Escape Safety
System or "P.R.E.S.S." for
Class II Harness is designed to provide the
firefighter the wide range of options
for use.
The P.R.E.S.S.
is designed to work with our Class II Harness,
which has true leg straps and rear support
straps for durability and lasting comfort. Our
patented designed
anchor strap prevents the user from tipping
from side to side and also eliminates
the fear of
inversion. The Class-2 harness has an optional
attached ladder hook can be used
for positioning while working on ladders or
in buckets.
 |
The
pre-rigged Egress System allows for the user
to find an anchor and GO!!! No need to attach
to attach to harness, rig hardware or tie
knots. The egress system can be customized
with a wide range of escape lines and descending
devices. |

P.R.E.S.S. Intended Use
This system is designed
for a single person, single use Emergency Evacuation
from a dangerous elevated
area.
This system
is not intended for fall protection.
Special training and
knowledge is required to use the RIT Egress System.
The device should
never be
used for any
other purpose other than that for which it
was designed, i.e. self rescue.
It should not
be used
as a tool belt,
or to raise or lower objects. Misuse of the
system could result in severe injury or death!! As per the NFPA and
CE Standard, the escape line in the personal
escape system is a single use
escape line only.
If used in a fire situation, exposed to shock
load, fire or chemicals, then it must
be removed
from service. If
the user is at any time unsure of the condition
of the system, it must not be used.
If
an alternative escape route is available,
the user should take the safest route
to evacuate
the
danger area. This escape
system should only be used when there is no
other means of egress or escape to a
safe area. No components of the
Escape System are intended to be used alone or
with any other escape system
or
harness.

Commonly asked questions? |
1.
Is training required in order to purchase an RIT
Rescue & Escape
system?
No. Training is not required to purchase an RIT escape
system. However, we strongly recommend taking advantage
of our train the trainer program. For more information
on the train the trainer program please contact All
Hands.
2.
Can individual Firefighters purchase a RIT
Rescue & Escape system without
their Fire Department's approval?
Yes. RIT has authorized All Hands Fire
Equipment to sell our escape products
to individual Firefighters.
3. Can I use the P.R.E.S.S. with a harness other
than a RIT Class-2, such as the Gemtor harness?
Yes. However, when the RIT P.R.E.S.S system is
used with a harness other than one manufactured
by RIT the system will become two separate certified
components. When used in conjunction with an
RIT harness the P.R.E.S.S maintains its certification
as a complete tested SYSTEM. The P.R.E.S.S system
has been certified to: NFPA 1983, standard on
life safety rope and equipment for emergency
services, 2006 edition.
4. Will the P.R.E.S.S. work with the Gemtor
541NYC RIGHT and LEFT side closing harness?
Yes. The P.R.E.S.S system can be modified to
work with a right or left side closing harness.
5. Does All Hands Fire Equipment provide volume
discounts for agencies purchasing the P.R.E.S.S.
for their entire department?
Yes, discounts can be provided for agencies that
purchase a large quantity. Call to receive a
quote and see if you qualify.
6. If I choose to attend additional training
on my P.R.E.S.S., can I use the purchased unit
during a hands-on training class?
Yes. Although, RIT recommends that separate training
units be purchased, a unit can be placed back
into service after its been trained on. RIT
strongly recommends that the unit be thoroughly
inspected after each use.
7. How often
should the rope in the P.R.E.S.S. System be
replaced?
NFPA mandates that if used in
an emergency escape, the line be immediately taken
out serviced. In a documented emergency escape,
RIT will replace the line at no charge. For training
use, RIT recommends line replacment after no more
than 75 uses (or jumps). Also, during training
the use edge protection and safety belay lines
should be used.
