Bridgehill Fire Blanket Car Pro X - Reusable

When dealing with electric vehicle (EV) fires, traditional extinguishing methods can be ineffective — and in some cases, dangerous. That’s where the Bridgehill Fire Blanket comes in: a proven tool designed to aid in control of vehicle fires, contain toxic fumes, and mitigate risk during fire and rescue operations.

How to use the blanket:

Bridgehill recommends the blanket be deployed by at least two trained personnel wearing proper firefighting PPE and breathing apparatus. Here’s how:

  • Unroll and center the blanket near the vehicle.
  • Each responder grabs a handle and pulls the blanket over the vehicle in one controlled movement.
  • Ensure it covers the car entirely, all the way to the floor, with no air gaps.

In windy conditions, it’s best to deploy with four people and tie a rope around the vehicle at floor surface to prevent the blanket from lifting.

How long should it stay in place?

  • Electric vehicles: Leave the blanket on for at least 20 minutes and monitor temperatures using a thermal camera. Since thermal runaway can continue for up to 48 hours, leave the blanket on for at least one hour after propagation ends.
  • Transport recommendation: Keep the blanket on during towing, secured with straps at ground level.

The manufacturer recommends not using water with Bridgehill Fire Blankets. Instead, let the blanket suppress the fire naturally. Lithium-ion batteries produce their own oxygen during thermal runaway, making water both unnecessary and dangerous.

Post-Incident Handling and reuse:

  • After the fire is fully suppressed, drag the blanket away from the vehicle.
  • If handling the blanket directly, be aware that it may be contaminated with carcinogens and hazardous materials. Anyone repacking or touching the blanket should wear full PPE and Respiratory Protection and follow proper decontamination protocols.
  • While some Bridgehill blankets are technically reusable (up to 30 times under ideal conditions), many departments choose to send the blanket with the vehicle during towing and bill the cost to the vehicle owner’s insurance. This avoids potential exposure risks and ensures readiness with a fresh blanket.

  • If reusing, allow the blanket to fully dry before folding and storing. Minor damage like holes under 1 cm may not affect performance, but any major tears should be repaired using the included repair kit.
  • Always refer to the specific blanket model’s usage guidelines, as some models (like the Lithium or Car Pro) may be single-use depending on the severity of the fire event.
